Find the artists we should be signing, and stay with them from first call to release.
You will own the top of our funnel. That means listening to a great deal of music, most of which is not right, and being the person who recognises the ones that are. It also means staying involved after the signature — artist development here is not handed off to someone else.
Day to day you will be working through submissions, going to shows, tracking regional scenes, building relationships with managers and producers, and making the case internally for the artists you believe in. You will have a real say in what gets signed.
We are not a major. You will not have an unlimited budget or a team of six under you. What you will have is the ability to sign someone on Tuesday and have a release plan by Friday, without three layers of approval.
What we are looking for
- Two or more years in A&R, artist management, or running a label
- A defensible point of view about music, and the ability to argue it
- Existing relationships in at least one scene or genre we can build on
- Comfort with the business side — splits, deal structures, what a contract means
- Willing to be at shows on weeknights
A self-starter with a strong work ethic
- A passion for working with songwriters, and producers
- The skillset to know the difference between bad, good, and great songwriting
- An ability to harness the power of social media to identify new stars and hits
- Excellent communication skills
- The ability to accept criticism
- Tech-savvy individuals with the ability to organize data, interpret data, and work within cloud-based team systems
- An understanding of the importance of sync, and an ability to develop strong relationships with the sync community to promote our writers and catalog
Nice to have: experience developing an artist from unsigned to a real release or a track record of spotting someone before other people did.
