The Yin-Young Legacy: Seoul, South Korea

The four sisters—Anya, Seraphina, Mika, and Raine (from oldest to youngest, aligning with ages 10, 8, 8, and 7 at the time of the move)—were born into a family that was a beautiful, but often challenging, tapestry of cultures. Their mother, Sue Yin, was a proud Korean woman whose family roots ran deep in Seoul. Their father, Keith Young, was an American expatriate and a former professional musician whose soulful rhythm and passion for music were an indelible part of their home.

In the vibrant metropolis of Seoul, South Korea, the sisters spent their earliest, most formative years. They were raised speaking both Korean and English, immersed in the rhythm of city life, the discipline of Korean schooling, and the ever-present, sleek aesthetic of K-Pop. Yet, even as children, the world often reminded them of their difference. As mixed-race children—half-Korean and half-Black—they often stood out. While their mother's family provided a secure anchor, outside their home, they faced subtle, and sometimes overt, ridicule and confusion over their blended heritage. They were often labeled "different," not quite fitting the strict homogeneity of their environment. This shared experience forged an intensely powerful, insular bond between the four sisters.
